KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim appeared calm early this morning when he announced that his first priority would be to assist the opposition to form the governments in Kedah, Perak, Penang, Selangor and Kelantan.
"Except for a state where a party has an absolute majority, we will have to consult our partners and seek an audience with the respective sultans and Yang Dipertua Negeri," he said at the 1.30am press conference here.
Anwar, who is also Parti Keadilan Rakyat de facto leader, said the results were not unexpected as his party as well as DAP and Pas had announced that they were going to deny Barisan Nasional a two-thirds majority.

On whether there would be some kind of celebration, Anwar said: "In light of the shock to BN and Umno, we have advised our supporters to remain calm and not to organise any celebrations.
On his political plans, Anwar said he had a lot of work to do in assisting the formation of the state governments, especially in ensuring that the new wakil rakyat are committed to the people.
He said he felt vindicated by Malaysians who voted for the opposition, thanking them for their decisive votes.
